Decorating Your RV’s Interior

Your RV is your home away from home and it should feel that way at all times. The colors used in RVs are designed to be universally appealing, so they tend to be more neutral in tone, and this doesn’t always reflect who you are like your home does.

Fortunately, this is easy to fix! You can create a warm and comfortable environment in your RV without spending much money or taking too much time. Pete’s RV Center Indiana is your Schererville, Indiana RV dealership. As such, we’ve gathered some suggestions for decorating your RV’s interior to better reflect your personality.

Paint the Walls

Yes, the walls of your RV can be painted just like you would the walls of a house or apartment. Choose colors that will coordinate well with your interior decorating style. You can always paint a piece of canvas in a color you’re considering and hang it up on the wall you intend to paint to get an idea of how you feel about the color before you commit to it.

Soften Things Up

Fabric is a great way to make your RV interior more comfortable, and you can use it in several different ways.

  • Bring in some of your favorite blankets to fold over couches and armchairs.
  • Use fabric wall hangings to add color and texture to your walls.
  • Change up bland curtains with pastel sheer curtains or bold blackout curtains, depending on how much light you want to let in or keep out.

Grow Houseplants

Even if you don’t have a green thumb, you can add some greenery to your RV. Small succulents or air plants in wall-mounted hangers can bring some freshness to your interior. A hanging basket of flowers can be put outside your RV when you’re parked to create a welcoming exterior.

If you’re feeling savvier or you miss your garden back home, cultivate some herbs in a kitchen planter so you can use them while cooking. Make sure that any plants are in plastic containers so they don’t shatter and secure them while the RV is in motion.

Change the Lighting

The LED lights in your RV are economical, but they’re not very warm. Fortunately, you can change up your lighting in a few different ways to get the inviting look you want.

  • Hang string lights or rope lights around the perimeter of the ceiling or as a frame around a window.
  • Place LED candles on tables — flameless candles are much safer than real ones in an RV while adding much-needed ambiance!
  • Hang a pendant lamp from the ceiling.
  • Replace fluorescent light bulbs with incandescent bulbs.

Use Real Dishes

Sure, most RV articles will suggest that you get yourself some sturdy plastic dishware that won’t break, but these can feel kind of cheap to eat off of. Head to a secondhand store and pick up some inexpensive ceramic dishes in fun patterns or colors; you can try to find a whole set that matches or you can go with an eclectic mix of florals and geometrics. Eating off of ceramic dishes will definitely make you feel more at home when you make your favorite lasagna for dinner!
