How to Pack for a Family RV Trip

If you’re the proud owner of an RV and want to take your kids on a weekend adventure, it’s important that you prepare adequately for it. There are plenty of things to consider in the packing process, which is why we’ve provided tips for readying yourself and your family for the next trip.

Be Prepared

It’s better to be a little over-prepared than to be under-prepared. Emergency supplies such as fire extinguishers, signal flares, a hand-crank radio, extra water and food, a well-stocked first-aid kit, blankets, warm clothing, and a hatchet will all give you peace of mind and ensure that you’re ready for anything.

In addition to that, you’ll probably want to pack some extra clothing for the kids, since they’re more likely to go through changes of clothes. They’ll also need warm layers as well as waterproof clothing if you’re going to a rainy climate.

Plan Meals

Food is a vital component of any RV trip since you’ll likely want to prepare most of your meals in the camper to save money and ensure that everyone’s getting something nutritious and filling to eat. Take the time to plan meals in advance with the family so that everyone will be happy. This will also let you pick up any necessary ingredients and spices and pack the right cookware.

Bring Comfort Items

Kids may feel homesick after only a day or two of travel, which is why it’s good to add a touch of home to your RV to help them feel more secure and comfortable. Bring photos of friends, family, and pets to hang up. Allow them to bring a favorite plush toy and blanket to curl up with. Have them choose the snacks they’d like to have on the trip. Figure out what crafts or activities they would like to do during downtime. If you can establish and maintain a routine for them that’s similar to your home routines, all the better!
